Electric Citroën 2 CV concept: what could reach UK showrooms?

Citroën has shown an electric 2 CV concept and is aiming for a 2028 production model. Here's what has been announced and what UK buyers still need to know.

Citroën has unveiled an electric 2 CV concept at the Paris Motor Show. It is a striking return to the shape of the original car, but the useful question for buyers is whether Citroën can turn the idea into an affordable small EV. The company says a production model is planned by 2028. For now, the car in the photograph is a concept, not a car you can order.

What Citroën has actually announced

The concept is 3.76 metres long and sits between the Ami and C3 in Citroën's proposed range. The company says it is aiming for a car made in Europe, with a starting price around €15,000. That is a target in euros, not a confirmed UK price or an on-the-road quote.

Citroën is targeting a weight of about one tonne and says the design favours simple construction and easier repairs. Its separate bumpers, for example, are intended to be replaceable without changing the whole body panel. Those are design intentions; production equipment and repair costs have not been confirmed.

The missing details for UK buyers

Citroën has not published a final UK specification, battery capacity, approved driving range, charging speed or UK order date. It says a model inspired by the concept should be unveiled within two years, with a place in the range by 2028. Plans can change between a show car and a production car.

The €15,000 target should not be converted into a promised sterling price. UK tax, equipment, delivery costs and the final production specification could all affect what buyers pay. The same goes for the car's unusual design features: wait to see which ones survive production.

Is it worth waiting for?

If you need a car soon, compare small EVs that are already on sale and available to test drive. Check the real purchase or finance price, warranty, charging options and whether the boot and rear seats work for your routine. A future concept cannot answer those questions yet.

The idea is promising because a lighter, simpler small car could reduce the cost of buying an EV. We will know whether Citroën has achieved that only when it publishes production pricing and specifications.
